Make an ageing asbestos roof safe

Cape Asbestos Solutions is Type 2 and 3 Asbestos Accredited, which allows us to do Asbestos Encapsulation and Asbestos Removal. Encapsulation keeps your existing asbestos cement roof in place and seals it under a specialised coating, locking fibres into the sheeting.

We pride ourselves on our high levels of success in the encapsulation field always ensuring that we use only the best products, for each of the multiple industries that we serve, from farms and packhouses to factories, warehouses, schools and homes.

  • Less disruption than removing the roof
  • Weathered, stained sheeting gets a clean, uniform finish

How it works

Our encapsulation process

Every roof is inspected first so we can confirm encapsulation is the right means of management.

Team cleaning a weathered roof before coating

Inspection

We assess the sheeting, fixings and gutters and confirm the roof is sound enough to encapsulate.

Plan of work and safety set-up

A site-specific plan of work, fall protection and the right protective equipment for the team.

Controlled wet cleaning

Moss, lichen and loose dirt are removed with methods that keep fibres from becoming airborne.

Treatment and priming

The surface is treated and primed so the coating bonds properly.

Encapsulation coats

A specialised encapsulation coating is applied to seal the sheeting, finished in your chosen colour.

Questions

Encapsulation FAQs

What is asbestos encapsulation?

Encapsulation seals asbestos cement sheeting under a specialised coating, so fibres stay bound in the material instead of being released as the roof weathers. The roof stays in place and gets a fresh finish.

When is encapsulation a good option?

When the asbestos cement sheeting is still structurally sound. It avoids the disruption of stripping a roof and is often the more economical choice. If sheeting is broken or the building is being demolished, asbestos removal is the better route.

Is my roof cleaned with a high-pressure washer?

No. Asbestos cement must never be blasted or scrubbed dry, as this releases fibres. We use controlled wet methods that keep fibres from becoming airborne.

Can you encapsulate a roof in a different colour?

Yes. The final coat can be applied in a range of colours. Ask us about options when you request a quote.
